John F. Chapman,  7th W Va Cavalry - Blacksmith

John was born in March of 1840 in Greenbrier County, Virginia to Joseph and Elizabeth Chapman.  He married Cynthia Ann Meadows on 3 Apr 1861 in Boone County, Virginia.  They lived in Racine, Boone County until after 1890, then moved to the Cabin Creek area of Kanawha County.  John died 9 Dec 1901.  He is buried in Meadows Cemetery at Comfort, Boone County, West Virginia in an unmarked grave.
 
John enlisted as a private in the 8th {West} Virginia Infantry, Company B on 2 Sep 1861 and was discharged as a blacksmith from the 7th West Virginia Cavalry on 1 Aug 1865.  He also was assigned to teamster and wagoner duties in the Quartermaster Dept. for parts of 1862 and 1863.
